JULY 2022 NEWSLETTER

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Over the halfway point in winter and we continue to receive reasonable rainfall on a weekly basis.  Touch wood – not as wet as some recent winters we have received a total of around 200mm or 8+ inches in the old scale through June and July.

Nevertheless, the golf course remains in very good condition despite a few areas chopped up because of traffic over the course.  The drainage works are continuing to show their value.

Volunteer of the Month – July.  This month, the committee has chosen to recognise the ongoing efforts of Murray Sells who expends plenty of time and energy per week including caring for the club’s machinery and fleet of golf carts, BZ mate and thank you.

Membership Fees – Season 22/23.  Membership renewal letters have all been distributed so if any member has not received their letter, please let our manager, Danny, know.  A reminder that all membership fees for the coming FY22/23 must be paid in full prior to the 1st of August 2022.

Update of Member Details.  Members are requested to review and update their existing details within OneGolf.  Accurate details will ensure that contact (if required) can be made with members.

New Members.  Speaking of members, Phil Gandy and I had the opportunity last weekend to play with two new members previously of Mt Martha GC, Mark Handley and Brett Wilson.  Based on the camaraderie enjoyed on the day, they will fit right in!  Welcome lads to you and any other new members joining us recently.

Care of the Course.  With the presence of good rainfall over recent weeks, the greens have softened a little and are more prone to ‘pitch marks.  Please find and repair your pitch marks along with any that may already be present.  Divots across the course are quite numerous given the softness of ground conditions.  Please take the time while moving ahead to locate and fill all divots.  The shortened ‘winter tees’ may be used to protect the course over the next few weeks.

2022 Annual General Meeting.  The AGM for this year will be staged Saturday 6 August with members asked to arrive by 9:00am for a 9:30am start.  Prior to the meeting, members will need to register for the day’s competition (shotgun start) that will follow.  The committee encourages all 6-day and 7-day members to be present, even those who may not be playing golf on the day.  For information, the Ladies AGM will be held on Tuesday 9 August from 9:00am with ladies requested to arrive at 8:30am.

Positions on Committee.  There are still plenty of space on the committee nomination sheet inside the clubhouse for any 6-day or 7-day members that would like to join the committee this year.

Good golfing!

Regards,

Steve Wright
President CGC

MESSAGE FROM THE LADY PRESIDENT

Winter is certainly upon us here at Cerberus.

Illness, injuries and migration to warmer states have had an impact on our Tuesday playing numbers over the last few weeks.  The course, however, has handled the wetter conditions very well.  This is due, mainly, to the great work of our Green Keepers, Pat and Dave as well as the large number of volunteers that have worked tirelessly to put new drainage down which improved the wetter areas of the course.  We are very fortunate to have all these people at Cerberus Golf Club.

We have welcomed quite a few new lady members to Cerberus this year and have been delighted with how well they have all settled in.  These ladies have certainly added to the fun and great social connection that we have here and we hope that they enjoy many years playing golf and socialising with us.  We are also very happy to welcome back Lisa Skinner-Kent.  Lisa stepped straight into the role of Captain for midweek match play competition within weeks of her return for which we were very grateful.

We have a new concept called 1Club Golf coming to Cerberus very soon.  This system is to encourage people who have never played golf to come along and have a go.  Our manager, Danny Shine, is in the process of finalising the dates for our first 1Club Golf event and will have it placed on our website and Facebook page when it is finalised.  Keep an eye out for this and let friends and family know that it is coming.  This will still be in line with Golf Australia’s ‘Get Into Golf’ program albeit in a different format.  Hopefully this new format will be just as successful as the first one we held early this year, in bringing new members to our club.

The final stage of the Multi-Day Event (MDE) Winter Cup was played off in a hard fought round between Jan Smith and Margot Smith.  Mrs. Smith was always going to be the winner, with Margot coming away with the win.  Congratulations to both ladies for making it to the finale and special congratulations to Margot Smith for her win.

We have had to move some of our trophy events recently due to weather conditions that prompted the need to play the short course but as always, our Captain Margot Smith arranged these changes with minimum trouble.  Please look out for these events when they are rescheduled on OneGolf.

A reminder that the General AGM will be held 9:30am Saturday, 6th August, with a Stableford shotgun start to follow and the Ladies AGM will be held 9:00am Tuesday, 9th August with 9/18 hole Stableford to follow.  We would love to see as many members as possible to these important club events.  If you want to have a say in how Cerberus Golf Club is managed, then joining the committee or sub-committee would be the perfect way to achieve this.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank ALL committee, sub-committee members and staff at Cerberus Golf Club for their work, care and commitment throughout the year.

Regards,

Vicki Rynaard
Lady President CGC

MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB CAPTAIN

The local rules board has been updated.   Please check before teeing off.

Preferred lies are now in play – through the green.

Pat, Dave and our loyal volunteers have had a very busy couple of months with all the new work on the course.   As always the main goal is to see the course playability improve all year round.   With that in mind we are currently busy planning and budgeting for future works.   More news in this space to come.

Happy golfing

Regards,

Dave Hilet
Captain CGC

GOLF SHOP SPECIALS

TaylorMade M4

Now available through the golf shop are TaylorMade M4 clubs.

Leaving the traditional driver face design behind, the Taylormade M4 driver offers multiple revolutionary technologies that improves distance, forgiveness, acoustics and feel.  The combination of Twist Face and Speed Pocket provide enhanced forgiveness and corrective performance across the face.  By adding reinforced outer sections to the driver, the centre of the driver is allowed to flex more. Resulting in more ball speed from all strike locations on the face.

With the proven Geocoustic technology and internal split weights, the M4 fairway is engineered for increased forgiveness along with enhanced sound and feel.  Designed to improve the common toe and heels strikes that golfers experience on a regular basis, the new curved face increases the width of the fairway by adding more loft in the high toe and less loft in the heel, producing more consistent side spin rates.

The irons have localized face flexibility in the hitting area, transferring more energy to the ball to increase distance and accuracy. This is achieved by stiffening the perimeter of the head creating a more rigid structure, enhancing sound and feel.

With the M4 series now superseded by the M5 for more skilled golfers, prices have dropped considerably with little to no compromise.

You have the option to buy the full set or individual clubs.  Drivers, fairway woods, rescue clubs or sets of irons (from 4 to PW) can be sold separately.  Come visit the Golf Shop or speak to me for your individual requirements.

Logo Apparel

With the Cerberus Golf Club Logo Vests proving to be very popular, we have now replenished stocks.  These vests are available for only $59 each.  Come visit the Golf Shop and see the sales rack before they’re gone!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

Golf continues to enjoy a surge in popularity, despite recent weather conditions, and we have welcomed several new members over the past few months.  We look forward to running our new 1Club Golf Event and seeing it once again full to capacity.

Regards,

Danny Shine
